Notes –
Variations
General – In some books, anupallavi is given as part of pallavi – there is no separate anupallavi.

1 – savana – sava : Both generally mean same.

2 – rAka nannEca – rAka ninnEca : From the context, ‘nannEca’ seems to be appropriate.

5 – nA prakASamA - nava kASamA.

As per Sanskrit Dictionary 'kASa' - botanical name 'Saccharum spontaneum' – is wild sugar cane. As per tamizh Dictionary, 'kAsa' or 'kAya' – botanical name 'Momecylon tinctorium' - is dark-blue flower tree. In tamizh dictionary, ‘kAsAmbU mEnian’ or ‘kAsAmbU vaNNan’ are given as epithets of vishNu.

In Ceylon's mullaittIvu, 'kAyAmbU' is also known as 'mullai'.

In 'kamba rAmAyaNaM' (tamizh), kamban calls rAma as 'kAyAmbU mEnian' – one who is dark-blue hued like 'kAyAmbU'.

6 – tALa jAlarA rAma –tALa jAlarA rAja.

Comments -
3 – ari gaNa arAtivi – this may also mean six internal enemies (shaD-ripu) – kAma, krOdha, lObha, mOha, mada, mAtsarya.

4 – ApagESArcita – Worshipped by varuNa – Lord of rivers. However, Lord Siva at tiruvaiyAru is also known as ‘pancApagESa’ – ‘Lord of five rivers’. Therefore, it could also be translated as 'One worshipped (arcita) by Lord Siva (ApagESa)'.

Dear Sri Govindan
Re : evarurA ninu vinA
In the four caraNaMs rhyming of the first two syllables appear to be missing partly.
C 1- rAdA, rAdA, rAdA & vAda
C 2- rAka, (pa)rAkA, rAkA & sAku
C3- SrISA, dASA, gESA& kASa
C 4- rAjA, rAjA, IjA & (sam) kOca
Any Comments?
C 4- I jAlamu sEya rAja – If this is a question the ending should be rAjA? This is how it is given in TTD book.

Dear Sri Govindaswamy,
While transcribing from the books, I have not strictly gone by the splitting of words as given in the books. For example, in one kRti, the word 'kRpAlavAla' has been split as 'kRpAla' and 'vAla' in the books. The corrct splitting would be 'kRpA' and 'AlavAla'. Here, I would prefer to have the complete word in the second line.
Therefore, the prAsa and anuprAsa rule cannot be applied to the version transcribed by me. Though, I have endeavoured to go by the version given in the books as far as possible, but not totally.

V Govindan

Dear Sri Govindan
In caraNam  2 for ‘sAkumA’ you have given the meanig as ‘please filfil my desire’ Does not sAku mean ‘to nurture/to nourish/ti bring up’  ?

Dear Govindaswami,

What you say is correct. However, taking into account the context 'nIku ASinciti', I have translated as 'fulfil'.

Regards,
V Govindan.
