It is suggested that a search be made whether there is an authentic pAThAntaram (alternative text) to 'sura pUjitudai' in the anupallavi- for example 'sura pUjitudau'.

As it stands, the one who is worshipped, is unambiguously attributable to the 'dauvArikudu', not to the Lord the 'vArijanayanudu'. Therefore it is strictly speaking, literally inappropriate.
The suggested alternative text namely 'sura pUjituDau' attributes this worship aptly, to the Lord. ('au' can stand for 'agu', the explicitly correct description).

In a recent 'pop'/ 'fusion' edition of the song attractvely presented on the YouTube by 'Raga Labs', usage of 'pUjituDaina' was made. Although this is literally correct, and only a small addition to the existing text, it was musically somewhat jarring to the ear used to the established musical composition for it adds a syllable. One probably cannot musically accommodate in a classical rendition of the composition. Furthermore it appears that such literal usage ('aina') was unusual in compositions of that period.

It is indeed worth searching for a 'pAThAntaram' that could replace the flawed word in an otherwise fine composition.

However, it will be improper, actually a sacrilege to attempt to tamper with the venerated composition, whatever be its merits, but it is equally discomforting for one who seeks to appreciate the meaning of the composition to put up with the current version however well established.

Until an authentic version is discovered, the existing text, even if it appears flawed, stands.

Sir,
vAsavAdi sura pUjituDai or pUjituDau - will not refer to the Door keeper; it will refer only to the Lord. Your contention about 'pUjituDau' is appropriate, but, I can't bring any such variation without authority. Your comments themselves will serve the purpose for guidance of musicians.
Best wishes,
V Govindan

Sirs, leaving all discussion on the attributes to Lord , this composition is the best for learning to all music lovers. This kruthi no doubt brings a Divine experience when it is sung in Divya nama sangirthanam. No one things about the minute difference in grammar & devotees are more involved in the spiritual emotion it creates, as only a very minor percentage of audience look into the meaning . I am worried such doubts may create teachers & students to touch such kirthanas with even slight doubts , fearing for the comments. As a Tamilian, as an ordinary devotee , I am sure even great musicians thought about it < I appreciate experts in the field clarify certain doubts. Enjoyed the comments. Thanks.

A very perfect Tamil translation using the word Kanire that is handled by Azhwars in Divya Prabandham
