O Lord sItA rAma! O Lotus Eyed! O Sinless One!
- Please listen.
- My Love towards You shall never wane.
- It is rather some sort of Your magic spell (on me).
- For my mind to reach only Your feet,
- my eyes to long only for Your form,
- my tongue to thirst only for chanting Your names -
- For my mind to reach only Your feet,
- these are nothing but Your grace towards me.
- Utterances that You alone are always my mother, father, friends and relatives, others, wealth, gold, preceptor and Deities -
- these are indeed my ornaments.
- Even amidst experiences of worldly enjoyments, my intellect nicely dwells in You.
- Indeed, Bliss supreme is experienced in the heart of this tyAgarAja.

Notes –
Variations –
2 – vinu – vInula : In my pinion, the word ‘vInula’ seems to stand alone and the meaning is not complete. Therefore, ‘vInula’ may not be correct.
3 – tanapai – tanavai : In my opinion, ‘tanavai’ may not be correct as it does not convey any meaning.
4 – karuNErA – karuNarA : In ‘karuNErA’, ‘E’ indicates emphasis, ‘nothing but Your grace’. Therefore, ‘karuNErA’ may be correct.
5 – nIvEyani – nIvEyanu.
6 – anagha – anaga : In my opinion, the word ‘anaga’ does not fit in the context. Therefore ‘anagha’ seems to be correct.

“O destroyer of death! For the destruction of sin and for the attainment of great prosperity (ie., liberation), I am requested by the tongue to sing Thy praise, by the mind to contemplate on Thee, by the head to prostrate to Thee, by the legs to circumambulate Thee, by the hands to worship Thee, by the eyes to see Thee and by the ears to hear Thy stories. Direct me to these endeavours, and remind of them. May I not become speechless (nor lose the powers of any of the organs mentioned above, so that I may practice devotion to Thee without impediment).” (Translation by Swami Tapasyananda)

Dear Sri Govindan
C1- vinu – vInula- You have taken this word seaprately to mean “ Please listen!” . Can this be taken as “Your names which are heard” and my tongue is thirsting to utter these?
C2 - nIvEyani – nIvEyanu –I feel that nIvEyanu (நீயேயெனும் ) is correct? If we take ‘ani’ and ‘anaga’ these also make sense as , நீயேயென்று (வார்த்தைகள்) கூற.
Regards
Govindaswamy
Dear Sri Govindaswamy,
Re : vinu : If it is 'vini', then what you say would be correct. But there are only two versions - vinu - vInula. In both these cases, such a meaning is not possible.
Re : nIvEyani - Though 'nIvEyanu' is a better word, I could not adopt the word because 'nIvEyani' is given in two books and the word (nIvEyani) is not incorrect either.
Regards,
V Govindan
