Notes –
Variations
1 – patiki hAratI rE – patiki hAratI rE sItA patiki hAratI rE

2 – satva bhAshaNuki – satya bhAshaNuki.

3 – marakatAnguDu – marayutAnguDu : ‘marakatAnguDu’ is the appropriate word.

Comments -
3 – marakAtAnguDu – merupu terangu – SrI tyAgarAja contrasts sItA’s body hue with that of the Lord – lightning streak (golden colour) against the rain clouds of dark-blue (green) hue.

4 – makkuvatO – affectionately. From the context (cukkala rAyani makkuvatO sari) where this word is occurring, it should mean 'brilliance' (resembling the brilliance of moon). However, as the word does not have any such meaning, it has been joined at the end.

    Dear Sri Govindan
    P - ஆரத்தி யடியே - ஆரத்தியெடு/ ஆரத்தி சுற்று are more commonly used.
    I understand hAratIrE as 'hArati +iyyarE' ஆரத்தி கொடுங்கள்.
You have given the meaning as “Let us perform wave offering “
I do not see the verb for perform. Hence I took the verb as above.
C3- rAja dhara – Can it be taken to mean wearer of nAgarAja ?

    Dear Sri Govindaswamy,
Normally, when hArati is performed, the laidies sing some auspicious songs only. They do not say 'we are performing hArati'. I take 'hArati rE' to indicate an inviation - exhortation. I have literally translated 'hArati rE' as 'ஆரத்தியடியே'. Even your suggestion 'ஆரத்தியெடு ஆரத்தி சுற்று' indicates an invitation.
The actual hArati song is 'jaya mangaLaM'. Therefore, this kRti, I take it to be calling on others.

Regarding 'rAja'. This word (rAja) followed by 'dhara', in Tyagaraja kritis refer to Lord Siva who wears moon. 'rAja' when used in independently refers to 'king' or 'moon'. Therefore, there is no scope of interpretation as 'nAga rAja'.
    Regards,
    V Govindan
