O Supremely Sacred Lord SrI rAma! O Lord dear to Lord Siva! O Lord well-praised by this tyAgarAja! O Most Eminent of raghu dynasty cherished or held dear by sage sanaka!

  • Why should I blame others?

    • Unable to bear the misery, when I entreat You,

  • even if You look at me without compassion, why should I blame others?

    • Abandoning association of good people,
    • flattering petty people for wants,
    • I am unable to bear the grief of not accomplishing what was desired –
    • this is the luck of my name.

    • Considering it to my fate, relying on people, I remain complacent -
    • I should only assume this to be my yet-to-manifest past karma.

    • As my body is languishing till now, You Yourself should understand;

  • otherwise, why should I blame others?

References
4 – mundu rAni karmamu – yet-to-manifest past karma - ‘sancita’ karma is the store of the effects or the impressions of all the actions performed by an individual in his countless previous births. All these effects of actions have to be experienced by the individual in different bodies. An action or a group of actions out of the ‘sancita’ Karma, which can be experienced only under some particular conditions, is allotted to a particular body for the sake of experience in those conditions demanded by this special effect or group of effects of an action or actions. This allotted portion is called ‘prArabdha’. The ‘Agami’ karma consists of actions performed by the individual through a particular body or the mind which will bear fruit in future.”- sancita - prArabdha - Agami karma

Comments -
caraNams 1 and 2 are very difficult to translate because the context is not known and wordings are very terse. If there are any errors, kindly excuse me. If correct meaning is intimated, it will be, accordingly, updated.

1 – idi pEru vAsi – ‘this is luck of my name’ - cursing one’s luck.

2 – rASiyanucu narulanu cE pUni vAsiyuNDEDu – the meaning of these words is not clear. In one book, it is translated as ‘luck will come to man accordingly as fate takes him’. However, this is not entirely satisfying because the construction of words make it difficult to render such a meaning.

3 – bhavAni ASa priya – though this has been translated as ‘Dear to Lord Siva’, the word ‘ASa’ is confusing.

Dear Sri Govindan
C1- koncepu narula koraku nuti jEsi- In the meaning given ‘koraku’ appears to stand disjointed. Can the meaning be taken as ‘koncepu koraku narula nuti jEsi’. In this case the meaning will be ‘for small wants’.
C2 - vAsi-uNDEDu- Is not ‘vAsigA UnDeDu’ the common spoken form? I feel that vAsi is a noun and vAsigA is an adverb.
mundu rAni- Has mundu gAni jEsina got corrupted ? Does not mundu mean past? If so, will it mean past karma?
Regards
Govindaswamy

Dear Sri Govindaswamy,
Re : koraku.
There are three words kora, koraku, korata. In the present kRti, SrI tyAgarAja seems to have used 'korataku' as 'koraku'.
If it is taken as 'koncepu koraku' as correct, then it would mean that it would be justified to approach for big wants 'pedda koraku'. I do not think that is the intention.

Re - vAsiyuNDEDu - is given correctly in all books. Though it does not make sense, we cannot change it.

Re : mundu rAni - this is again a difficult phrase. I have tried to translate to the best of my ability.

Regards,
V Govindan
