Comments -
1 – sad-bhaktiyu – The addition of 'yu' at the end of 'bhakti' might mean 'and', 'also' (true devotion also). Only in case of caraNa 1, such a meaning is possible; the statements in anupallavi and other caraNas preclude such a meaning. Therefore, 'and', 'also' has not been applied.

2 – satta – this word is derived from Sanskrit 'sat'. Though, generally, this word is translated as 'truth', it is possible that SrI tyAgarAja refers to vEdic statement 'Ekam sat'. This is more so because in the last caraNa where he refers to 'SrI rAmuni tatvamu teliyanidi' (not knowing the true nature of SrI rAma).

5 – SrI rAmuni tatvamu – SrI tyAgarAja worshipped SrI rAma as paramAtma – same as ‘satta’ mentioned in anupallavi – though the form (SrI rAma) was his ishTa daivaM – the chosen idol. Please refer to kRti ‘SyAma sundarAnga’ – rAga dhanyAsi

Dear Sri Govindan
I found this explanation in Sri KSR Prasad's book.
"The word 'padavi' has two meanings. The first one is 'status or position', which is very much in vogue these days. The other meaning is 'path/course', which seems to be more appropriate for the contents  of this song. (The first meaning too matches in some places.) Of course, the path in this song is 'righteous' path.”

Dear Sri Govindaswami,

'padavi' is very much a Tamil word as it is Telugu. Though, the contention that it means 'path' is also true, when the obvious and popular meaning 'status' fits totally in the context, it may not be appropriate to select other meanings. Further, I go by the traditional meanings attached to the words - as given in the books. Accordingly, I have used 'status'. I still feel that 'status' is more fitting than 'path'.

Regards,
V Govindan
