The word 'dandanalatO' should be corrected as 'tandanaalatO'
Dear Sri Sury,
It is nice of you to have gone thru the kRti and posted a comment. I have checked the books from where I have digitized the kRti. The word given is 'dandanalatO'.
I have checked the Telugu Dictionary. There are two distinct words 'tandana' and 'dandana'. Please refer to the meanings as given therein at http://dsal.uchicago.edu/dictionaries/brown/
IMHO, in the present context, 'dandanalatO' seems to be appropriate because of the ensuring words 'proddu pOvalenA'.
Also, the traditional meaning derived (as given in the books) is 'trick' - for which IMHO 'dandana' seems to be appropriate.
Thanks and best wishes,
V Govindan
Yes, dandana in telugu means punishment. Thyagaraja asks Rama : should i suffer whole day (relentless pain)
Dr. Suryanarayana is right. Tan Dana Lu as I understand is a practice , which was followed when I grew up in Andhra Pradesh in 1960s & 1970s; where Brahmins are given food/ meals by begging and stop in well to do Brahmin households and offered as Prasadam after food is prepared and Naivedyam given. Tandanalu is offered to mostly Vedic students , and others learning and singing Sanatana Dharma
