Notes –
Variations -
1 – teliya Ekanta – teliyadEkAnta.

2 – paTTi goDDu – vaTTi goDDu. In all the books, the meaning derived is ‘stray bull’. The telugu word for ‘stray animal’ is ‘cerugoNDi paSuvu’ or ‘ceruDu paSuvu’ or ‘donga goDDu’. ‘paTTi’ is a tamizh word to mean ‘stray’ – ‘paTTi mADu’ or ‘koNDi mADu’ – ‘stray animal’.

‘goDDu’ means both 'animal' and ‘barren’; ‘vaTTi’ means ‘utter’. In the present context, it should be either ‘stray animal’ or ‘barren animal’. As there is no doubt about ‘goDDu', it is possible that 'vaTTi' is not correct. Therefore, it is possible that SrI tyAgarAja has used a tamizh word ‘paTTi’ here. Accordingly, ‘paTTi goDDu’ has been adopted.

In the kRti ‘proddu poyyenu’ – rAga tODi, SrI tyAgarAja uses ‘paTTi eddu’ to mean ‘stray bullock’.

Comments -
1 - EkAnta - this word has many meanings - 'privacy', 'sole aim', 'single pointed', 'absolute', 'exclusive', 'non-dualistic' etc. In the present context, 'exclusive' may be suitable if looked from the angle of SrI tyAgarAja to mean ‘ishTa dEvatA’ (one’s choice form); if it is taken as an epithet of SrI rAma, then it might mean 'absolute' – meaning ‘para-brahman’.

Re :eTula brOtuvO
P: “teliya” - Is this the shortened form of teliyaDu or teliyanu. teliyaDu means “It is not known”. “teliyanu” means “I do not know”. I feel that both give the same meaning.
C ; “paTTI” in Tamil also means cowshed. Does it suit the meaning because a bull/cow in a shed is a protected one and not a stray one Does goDDu mean a cow or bull or infertile cow.?

Dear Sri Govindan
C – PaTTI goDDU- KSR Prasad has given the meaning for this as
“bull, which is left free in the name of God (‘aboutu’ in telugu)”
கோவில் காளை. I feel that this is what tyAgarAja means.

Dear Sri Govindaswamy,
'paTTi goDDu' means a 'stray cattle'. கோவில் காளை also strays in the town and fields, but it is not called 'stray cattle'. The Tamil word for 'stray cattle' is பட்டி மாடு அல்லது கொண்டி மாடு. Therefore, the meaning taken by KSR Prasad cannot be substantiated.

Please see the meaning of AbOtu -
ఆబోతు (p. 0117) [ ābōtu ] ā-bōtu. [Tel. ఆవు+పోతు.] n. A bull. ఆబోతును విడుచుట to release a bull at a man's funeral (this being a prescribed rite.) ఆబోతురౌతు one who rides on an ox, Siva.

It is not "Patti goddu", it is "vatti goddu". In Telugu it means cattle which is useless, which doesn't give milk, and also "aabothu" meaning bull which just wanders all over the town.
