- O My Mind!
- Even if one has ten thousand rupees, all that one needs (for a meal) is but a handful of broken rice only;
- even if one has a thousand garments, all that one needs for wearing (at a time) is but one (garment) only;
- even if one rules over entire town, all that one lies down is but three cubits of space only;
- even if one gets a hundred varieties of food-items, all that one can gulp (at a time) is but as much as a mouthful only.
- even if the river flows to the brim, all that water one can fetch is but vessel-full only.
- Even if one has ten thousand rupees, all that one needs (for a meal) is but a handful of broken rice only;
- Therefore, do not forget Lord hari - the Most Excellent One, well-praised by this tyAgarAja.
