'prEma' in bhakti literature refers to anurAga bhakti or kAntAsakti - love towards God as that of wife unto her husband. Therefore, 'kAdal' is the appropriate word.

Your second point - Though 'sugam' and 'nalam' have almost similar meanings - but not quite similar, the word used by SrI tyAgarAja is 'sukhamu'. Therefore, wherever possible I have retained the word used by SrI tyAgarAja, if the same or similar word is available in Tamil.

Thanks for your comments,
Regards,
V GovindanV Govindanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08711373807817392310noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29597207.post-37860409066524652172010-12-16T06:17:37.615+00:002010-12-16T06:17:37.615+00:00in tamil translation 'pattru' seems to be ...in tamil translation 'pattru' seems to be right word instead of 'kaadal'(which occurs between a man and a woman).

Also,"nalam" seems to be a better than 'sugam'Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06330101994741928397noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29597207.post-66259308977585183272010-10-22T12:49:55.302+01:002010-10-22T12:49:55.302+01:00Dear Sri Govindaswamy,

It also refers to 'a woman'. In my opinion, there seems to be no compelling reason to derive meaning of 'a lustful woman' here.

Regards,
V GovindanV Govindanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08711373807817392310noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29597207.post-40982777199903172972010-10-21T23:52:22.825+01:002010-10-21T23:52:22.825+01:00Dear Sri Govindan

I have a feeling that tyAgarAja has purposely used this. He probably means that an actor who dons the role of a chaste woman has perforce to learn about the qualities and behaviour of such a woman. But as he is playing the role of a kAmini he need not practice the behqviour of a sAdhvi.
Regards
GovindaswamyGovindaswamyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16265190124878573283noreply@blogger.com
