As per Telugu Dictionary, t...Dear Sri Govindaswamy,
As per Telugu Dictionary, the word for 'relative' is 'bandhu'. However, I am aware that there are a number of Sanskrit words which have been spelt differently in Telugu. It is possible 'bandu' could be one such. But, that meaning (relative) does not fit in the present context. In fact, such a meaning would go against the word 'kaTTu'. Further, in all such ambiguous terms, I keep in mind the meanings traditionally derived - as given in the books. They rule out the meaning 'relative'. Therefore, I have taken the most obvious meaning as per Telugu Dictionary - slave or prisoner.

This word, I have found very difficult to translate and yet, it is not translated to my entire satisfaction. There could be room for doubt.

Regards,
V GovindanV Govindanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08711373807817392310noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29597207.post-22381715775100710702009-11-18T13:04:20.108+00:002009-11-18T13:04:20.108+00:00Dear Sri Govindan

In dictionary meaning of bandugudu is given as tcuTTamu (சுற்றம்). I wonder whether instead of bandu, you have taken banTu which means servant (sEvakuDu), devotee (bhaktuDu), and disciple (SishyuDu).
Regards
GovindaswamyAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
